Gaydos asked Robert Rodriguez during the conference, “How do you keep the DNA and the personal Robert Rodriguez alive when you make a huge movie?” Rodriguez said, “You stay in Texas. We started very early with digital photography, the first digital 3D movie was made here.” Gaydos congratulated Rodriguez for “Alita: Battle Angel” (2019) which is the biggest budget films ever filmed in Texas. Robert Rodriguez worked on this film with his crew from Texas, a crew he has been working for a long time. He said, “The mindset of my crew is so different and they are so excited to make a movie like “Alita,” and they bring their talent and excitement. My crew in Texas lives to work here and they don’t live here to work. I didn’t really want to move to Los Angeles to be a filmmaker, and I showed people my short films and even though people said I should move to Los Angeles, I said nah…I don’t think so. I want to stay here in Texas where the creativity is for me, my ideas, and family. I kept  my roots here and I built my crew in Texas and my crew had to learn skills here.”
