The 2017 Tribeca Film Festival presented by AT&T announced the Audience Award Winners in New York on April 29, 2017. The two Audience Awards which were sponsored by AT&T were ‘The Divine Order’ directed and written by Petra Volpe received the Narrative award and ‘Hondros,’ directed by Greg Campbell and written by Greg Campbell and Jenny Golden. The winners both received $10,000 and a piece of artwork. The winners were announced at the 45th-anniversary celebration of The Godfather at Radio City Music Hall, which closed out the Festival’s 16th edition.
‘The Divine Order’ was screened in the International Narrative Competition section of the festival. The director and writer Petra Volpe also won this year’s Nora Ephron prize at Tribeca Film Festival. The film is about Political leaders in Switzerland who cited a ‘Divine Order’ as the reason why women still did not have the right to vote as late as 1970. Volpe explores this surprising history through the story of Nora, a quiet housewife from a quaint village searching for the fierce suffragette leader inside her. The movie stars Marie Leuenberger, Max Simonischek, Rachel Braunschweig, Sibylle Brunner, Marta Zoffoli, Bettina Stucky. The file is in Swiss-German with subtitles.
‘Hondros’, screened in the Spotlight Documentary section and was directed by Greg Campbell and written by Greg Campbell and Jenny Golden. Beginning with the war in Kosovo in 1999, award-winning photographer Chris Hondros served as a witness of the conflict for over a decade before being killed in Libya in 2011. In ’Hondros,’ director and childhood friend Greg Campbell creates a portrait of a man with not only great depth and sensitivity, but a passion for his craft, and an unending talent for creating breathtaking imagery. The film was executive produced by Jake Gyllenhaal and is in Arabic and English with subtitles.
During the Festival the audience members voted by using the official Tribeca Film Festival app on their mobile devices and rated the film on a scale of 1-5 stars in the following categories: Films in the U.S. Narrative Competition, International Narrative Competition, World Documentary Competition, Viewpoints, Spotlight, Specials, and Midnight Selections were eligible.
